12.12.12 Challenge for the Bears – What is it?
‘Help us hit a target of £12,000 by 12.12.12!
As many of you know, The Winton Foundation for the Welfare of Bears was launched on the distinctive date of 10.10.10. On 11.11.11, Lesley took part in her sponsored mini-triathlon. This year, we have the special date of 12.12.12 and we have come up with an exciting idea to mark this date that can involve everyone if they’d like to take part – even if they have very little time or money to spare. It is a great way in which everyone, including schools and community groups, can pull together to help the bears. For all the different ways in which you can take part, read on…!

The Main 12.12.12 Challenge
Those taking part in the principal event will pick a different challenge for each of the 12 months of the year (if we’re late with January, we can do two in February!), getting sponsored by friends and family to achieve all 12 challenges. Even our furry companions can take part, by having their own challenges and getting sponsored!
Sponsorship can be pledged at any time during the year. All funds raised will come to the Bear Foundation and be added to our Honey Pot to help many more bears. Once each challenge is achieved, we would love you to take photos – we will have a special section on our Facebook page for uploading photographs and sharing all our experiences. We will also have a prize for the most inventive challenges, as well as for the most money raised.
Please have a look at our ‘12.12.12 Challenge Ideas’ section to get some inspiration for what you’d like to do. It can be any combination of ideas you like – and that will be your ‘challenge’ for the year!
Alternative 12.12.12 Options
If you’d prefer not to undertake any of the main Challenge Ideas, have a look at the ‘Alternative 12.12.12 options’ section for some easier ideas, still working around the magic number of ‘12’ and still a great way to help!

Still more ideas for fundraising…
We have also added some more general suggestions and ideas so that everyone can take part, even if time and money is tight. Feel free to let us know more of your ideas if you have anything else in mind that you’d like to do. Anything you can do, big or small, to help raise funds will be put towards our target of £12,000.
Don’t forget to let us know what you’re doing or pledging…
Once you have decided what you would like to do, email us at info@wintonbearfoundation.org and we’ll add you to Team 12.12.12! If you are doing a sponsored event, please download the sponsorship form, on which you can write your challenge on the reverse. There will also be a poster (coming soon) for you to download and print, so please try and get as many friends and family involved as you can. Spread the 12.12.12 word! Please do share all your ideas with us – make sure you have a look at all the ideas and see what other members of Team 12.12.12 are doing!
Starting after January
Don’t worry if you are starting part of the way through the year – you can just do one big challenge through the year or still do 12 challenges over the remaining number of months. They can even be little challenges – just something you’ve always wanted to do and you can get sponsored for!
If you would like to take part in the 12.12.12 Challenge for the Bears, please contact Lesley at lesleyjwinton@tiscali.co.uk or info@wintonbearfoundation.org and let us know what you plan to do, and we can help provide support and encouragement.
